Community kitchens in Jicamarca, Lima-Perú
Beyond the practice of law, William R. Lizárraga supports the ollas comunes and comedores populares (community kitchens) of Jicamarca, on the outskirts of Lima, Perú, where neighbors organize to cook and feed local families.
On September 28, 2024, he visited Jicamarca and donated cooking stoves to the ollas comunes, meeting with the women who run the kitchens and with their families.
The ollas comunes are run by neighbors, most of them mothers, who pool food and resources so that no family in the area goes without a daily meal. With the new stoves, these kitchens can keep cooking for the children, the elderly and the families of Jicamarca.
The visit continued until nightfall on the hills of the community, alongside Pastor José Ocas, and the ollas of Jicamarca expressed their gratitude in a handwritten note.
His commitment goes beyond the ollas comunes: he also supports the education of children from low-income families, so that they have the opportunity to keep studying and build a better future.
